A $3 Pregnancy Test?? REALLY?!

July 27, 2012 in Exclusive, Health&Beauty, Really!? by BossLady

Now, this may strike you as odd, as it did for me, but it’s true. There are now pregnancy tests that are available for purchase for three dollars. Sounds like a great idea when your average home pregnancy test is around 10 bucks. The catch with this one is that they’re only available in bars. Yes bars, where they serve alcohol and normally smoke cigarettes and have an occasional darts game. The first bar to sell the tests is in Mankato, Minnesota called Pub 500 where it was a part of a campaign launched by the non-profit organization Healthy Brains for Children.

The aim for this campaign is to lessen the number of cases of fetal alcohol syndrome, according to founder Jody Crowe, a former school principal. He has hopes that these machines will help women to “test before drinking alcohol rather than waiting until a month or two into the pregnancy.”

Okay so that’s great and all but what happens when most of the people getting prego nowadays are under 21 and can’t get into bars? Then what? Crowe said he hopes to put the machines in gyms, restaurants, and gas stations as well but I think if something really wants to be done, I think they should be put in HIGH SCHOOLS, MOVIE THEATERS, SKATING RINKS, MALLS…you know, places where young people hang out. Just a thought…
