(Blytheville, AR) A family is speaking out after a man is shot to death by an officer in an apparent hostage situation.
They say the officer overreacted when 30-year-old Terrence Dawson threatened his girlfriend with a knife.
The Blytheville Police Department kept quiet all day Saturday of how a man was shot and killed by an officer inside a home on South First Street early in the morning.
“He wasn’t trying to fight or nothing,” said Mildred Bruce, the man’s mother. Even she wanted answers.
“There was one cop that shot my son and killed him in front of me, because I was sitting on my couch and I saw everything,” she said.
Bruce says an officer used unnecessary, deadly force to stop an apparent hostage situation. She believes her son could have been tasered instead and still be alive.
It all started when Bruce woke up around 6:00 in the morning to find her son banging on the front door. She said he had a knife to his girlfriend’s neck and two officers were already there with their guns drawn. She didn’t know what led to that moment, only that once inside, the officer went after her son.
“He got him from behind here and threw him like this on the table,” she said as she motioned it, “and then (Terrence) looked at me and the officer (shot him several times),” Bruce said as she made the sound of gunshots. “So when he did that, the only thing I could do was curl up on the couch and start hollering.”
The woman got away unharmed. Bruce and the rest of the family were forced to wait outside while police investigated the fatal shooting. The mother claims not one investigator got her family’s side of the story.
“The cop knows he was wrong. He was,” said Bruce. “He didn’t even apologize, didn’t even come talk to me. None of them did.”
No one with Blytheville Police or Arkansas State Police would give the details about what happened Sunday morning. Both agencies said we would have to call back on Monday.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson in Florida.
The warrant was issued May 7 in Broward County because Johnson violated several terms of his probation, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The BSO said Johnson failed to meet with probation specialists on Feb. 15 and March 15. He also failed to show proof of enrollment and completion of the “Batterers Intervention Program.”

Actor Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith have received both criticism and praise for their modern approach to raising their two children, Jaden and Willow Smith. During a recent interview with The Sun, Smith shared the details of the pair’s modern parenting techniques and even spoke on 14-year-old son Jaden wanting to be emancipated for his next birthday.
“He says, ‘Dad, I want to be emancipated.’ I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants to have his own place, like ooh. That’s the backlash. On the other side, if kids just want to have command of their lives, I understand,” Smith explained.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Jaden also hopes to make his mark in both Hollywood and in the world of Hip Hop. He’ll star alongside his dad in the upcoming film After Earth and on the music end he released his own mixtape titled The Cool Cafe: Cool Tape Vol. 1 just last year. The actor/rapper has also appeared on records with Justin Bieber and sister Willow Smith.

LOS ANGELES (Associated Press) — Grammy-winning musician Chris Brown’s neighbors are unhappy with what some are calling frightening art he’s chosen to have painted along the curb of his Hollywood Hills home.
A neighborhood group said the grimacing, sharp-toothed, red-eyed goblins painted along a retaining wall have been scaring local children, and is an eyesore to boot, the Los Angeles Times reported.
“There are lots of babies, lots of children, and they’re literally frightened. It’s like devils on the wall — big scary eyes and big scary teeth, and just the whole vibe is not what we’re used to,” Patti Negri, president of the Hollywood Dell Civic Association, told the newspaper.
